Change Log & Troubleshooting

📝 Recent Updates (Beta v1.3)

  • Google Earth KMZ 3D Pins: Added automatic 3D camera orientation and rich pop-up window telemetry for exported keyframes.
  • Orthomosaic Alignment & Speed Guidance: Updated user guide with flight speed recommendations to resolve tile overlap and stitching anomalies.
  • EcoSite Constraints: Optimised multi-API data calls for faster hydrology and statutory designation buffering.
  • SRT Parsing Enhancements: Upgraded the underlying parser to accurately handle telemetry files from DJI Mavic 3 Pro and DJI Mini 3 Pro captures.
  • Multi-Format Coordinate Normalisation: Upgraded the parsing engine to automatically normalise telemetry logs across four standard coordinate formats (Decimal Degrees, Degrees/Minutes/Seconds, British National Grid / OSGB36, and UTM). This eliminates tedious manual conversions.

🧩 Orthomosaic Tile Overlapping & Flight Speeds

A special thanks to James Maben for providing test files from his drone surveys of the River Culm in Devon. When reviewing early test captures, we noticed issues with orthomosaic map tiles overlapping incorrectly due to excessive flight speed.

Fast flight orthomosaic result with tile overlap issues Fast Flight: Stitching anomalies & tile overlap
Slow flight orthomosaic result showing improvement Slowed Down (25% speed): Improved alignment

While artificially slowing down post-capture video improves results, filming at a naturally slower speed during capture yields cleaner frame overlap and a much higher quality orthomosaic map. For a visual demonstration, check out the Speed Demo Video →. Refer to the updated user guide for full flight planning guidelines.

🔧 Quick Troubleshooting

  • Missing SRT Telemetry: Ensure your drone's companion `.srt` file shares the exact same file name as your `.mp4` recording so telemetry can sync.
  • KMZ Rendering Issues: If 3D pins do not display camera orientation correctly, make sure you are running the latest version of Google Earth Pro.
